In Utah, a Code Blue alert is activated if the temperature drops below 18-degrees Fahrenheit, including wind chill, or in extreme weather events. During alerts, additional beds are available at shelters throughout the state. Salt Lake County manages the alerts, but only sends them to providers and those who sign up to receive them.
I wanted to help amplify the message and increase the likelihood those in need of shelter would be aware additional beds were available. In collaboration with the City Council social team, I strategized our approach, which included a static post on Instagram, Facebook, and X with shelter details and a simple, but memorable graphic. Each time an alert was activated, we reshared the post on all accounts to increase awareness.
