The Salt Lake City Council initiated and allocated funding for a sanctioned camping pilot program, aimed at exploring alternative shelter options for individuals experiencing homelessness. The program was referral-only and designed for individuals unable or unwilling to enter traditional congregate shelters. The pilot also aimed to facilitate residents’ transition out of homelessness by offering access to essential resources and case management.
Before the shelter’s launch, I toured the site and nearby non-profit with a photographer to provide content direction and better understand the operations. To inform the public of the pilot’s launch, I created an informational post for the Council’s dedicated homelessness website and summarized slides in Canva for social media.
